The painting Crab, featured at The Art Garage

The article above was quoting from some reflections I had written to accompany my painting in the exhibition. The following is the original text:

My family would visit my grandparents almost every summer with a trip to the beaches of South Carolina. Adventure ran deep in the thick salty air, in every tide pool, and the marshes which teem with life. The beauty and wonder of it has been firmly embedded in my memories. My painting “Crab” was inspired by these experiences. The coast is filled with beauty as well as real danger. I find that crabs embody these very things. Their exoskeleton is amor against the threatening environment. The Blue Crab has two menacing claws and is covered in sharp points. However, they are also beautiful, not only in form, but in color as well. Coated in a muddy brown they can hide seemingly well, but threaten them, and you will see the flash of their azure blue legs and fiery red claws. This past summer I had the joy of visiting the beach with my young nephews as they explore and discover the fascinating world that we live in. I find it particularly meaningful to share these experiences with them and am grateful for the opportunity to reawaken in myself the wonder of it all.
